The picture says it all, although there is no actual fish tank, this school of Salmon were swimming through the dock fingers at Eshamy Bay Lodge! We are in a prime location for viewing these magnificent fish as they make their yearly run to fresh water.

This picture also shows an interesting look at our new floating cabin, available this year for the first time to hunters in the fall and winter for Sitka black tail deer. More information and pictures to come of the Floaing Cabin!

Breaching Humpback Whales

Yesterday, Captain Duke took out 4 guests staying at Eshamy Bay Lodge for a wildlife tour, and he captured some great pictures of humpback whales breaching! Humpback Whales travel throughout Prince William Sound, Alaska feeding on small fish and plankton. Some days they feel the need to launch themselves completely out of the water and we are fortunate enough to be able to watch these magnificent creatures. The tour also consisted of some great bird watching, seals, sea otters, and eagles, but as you can see the humpback whales stole the show!

Memorial Weekend Black Bear Hunt

This Memorial Weekend we had a group of hunters reserve Eshamy Bay Lodge for their headquarters for Spring Black Bear hunting in Alaska’s Prince William Sound. These 6 guys took advantage of our location and upgraded from camping to sleeping in Cabin rooms and having nearby bathrooms to take advantage of. They stayed 3 nights/ 4 days and traveled throughout Prince William Sound on their boat and skiff for their unguided black bear hunts. Each day they had meals prepared for them in our Cookhouse, and prepared packed lunches to take along. A campfire was lit each night, with a warm room and cozy bed waiting just a short walk away. This group enjoyed their stay in the Alaskan Wilderness with us and some of them even squeezed in some fishing! These guys took camping to the next level and it paid off… 4 out of 6 got their Prince William Sound Black Bear! We hope to see this group again and we’re glad they had such a successful Black Bear Hunt! What a great trip to start off the season!

First Fire

Eshamy Bay Lodge introduced the First Fire of the Season Party this year. It took place May 12th and to kick off the season right, we welcomed out everyone to join in on the celebration of spring! We added a pot luck style dinner for the night and had a great variety of food including spot prawns and moose roast! The fun didn’t stop there, we had a great fire going all night in our brand new fire ring with Alaska animals carved on the sides. This unique fire ring was created for Eshamy Bay Lodge by our own Captain Duke. Enjoyed by kids and adults alike, it is sure to be a talked about piece for many fires to come!

Prince William Sound Deer Hunting

The Prince William Sound is known for its Alaska Deer Hunting. The Deer Hunting Season is now open for Bucks Aug. 1 – Sept 30 and any Deer Oct. 1 – Dec. 31. the Bag limit is Five Deer Total; Hunt requires Alaska hunting license and Harvest tickets. Let Prince William Sound Taxi transport your Sitka Blacktail Deer Hunting Party to the destination of your choice in the Prince William Sound, or to Eshamy Bay Lodge. Eshamy Bay Lodge is located in the center of the Prince William Sound, close to Knight Island, Green Island, and Montague Island. Alaska Black Bears

We recently enjoyed a sunny day by taking a hike up to Eshamy Lake. The fish are making their way up the stream and therefore the Black Bears are coming out to the water as well!

I took some good pictures of the bears and felt grateful for the long zoom lens! No need to get too close to these magnificent and powerful creatures.

Of course, the bears weren’t too interested in us. They have a buffet of fresh salmon right in front of them to fill their appetites!

Jumping Salmon

The Sockeye (Red) Salmon are running thick near Eshamy Bay Lodge. We’ve even snagged some from our dock!

Come out and get your limit on Red Salmon, while relaxing comfortably at the Lodge. Captain Duke can take you over to prime Sockeye Salmon locations, where there are a multitude of them swimming in schools. Return to Eshamy Bay Lodge to have the fish cleaned and either put into the freezer, or come to the cookhouse and we’ll assist in preparing and cooking your dinner!

Spring Black Bear Hunts from Eshamy Bay Lodge

We’ve had very successful black bear hunts this season. One of the black bears was taken by our very own Captain Duke. He operates the Prince William Sound Taxi out of Eshamy Bay Lodge.

Captain Duke left for his hunt early morning on May 26th, 2011 and made it back the same day with a beautiful black bear! It was a proud day for all of us here at Eshamy Bay Lodge.

Captain Duke can transport you to your very own unguided black bear hunt. We provide hunter drop-offs throughout Prince William Sound. Come out to Eshamy Bay Lodge for a great nights sleep, hot shower, and home-made meals to fill you up before and after your hunt.
